Inbred Faith part 3
March 19th, 2008

I have a confession. A few years ago I’d listened to every sermon Mark Driscoll had ever recorded. I have nothing but great things to say about Mark and Mars Hill, but I could tell my faith was growing very inbred when I started referring to sin as “jacked up” and talking about wussy guys that wear lemon yellow and ride on tandem bikes together (see photo above).
I have broadened the preachers that I listen to on a fairly regular basis. Here’s an comprehensive list of pastors that I have a ton of respect and gratitude towards:
John Piper
Tim Keller
Mark Driscoll
Pete Williamson
CJ Mahaney
Matt Chandler

Big ups on the tandem bike pics. That first one especially cracked me up. I have the “proclivity” to dig those other guys too. I knew you were cool.
*snort*
Oh that is great. Piper has always been a hit with me, Driscoll and Mahaney too. I’m odd and love Ravenhill, Wigglesworth, and Spurgeon too.
Yup. I’m a mixed bag.
Last January I noted a similar kind of inbreeding in Outreach magazine. Like you, nothing wrong with these guys, just too much of the same thing.
not sure I belong on this ride just yet, but I am certainly thankful to be in front of rather than behind Mike…even if it means I have to keep an eye out for CJ’s flying hands.
I know exactly what you mean, about listening to just one guy too much. The way a powerful speaker uses language is contagious.
Now everyone just has to convince Redeemer to stop selling their mp3s.
