Not Art. Submission 2.
Here is our second submission for the Not Art. Gospel. series. The section focused on this time was Matthew 6:1-4. Let me know how you take this art. How do you view it in context with the verse.
So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. Matthew 6:2
Wood is the New Paper.
Why print on paper when you can print on wood? We just got some printed samples back on these cards and they turned out really great. They were printed at Cards of Wood, and I have to say they rocked it. We should always be thinking of other mediums to get our message across. For a company like Big Oak, printing on wood seemed to fit nice.

Why create art? That is a question I have been asking myself a lot the past couple months. Do I want recognition? Do I want to stir up controversy? Do I feel like I am superior to others? The more I spend time thinking about my reasons for art, the less I spend time thinking of the gospel. So here is my resolution. Do not create art, but share the gospel. That is what I am focusing on for a new project. My goal is to create images for every topic on the Sermon on the Mount. I want the art to tell the story, I want the art to be the gospel.
I do not know what format this will take, or what I want it to become. Please pray that God will use this, and open up doors for His glory to be known.
Here is my first attempt.
Project One: M7:3-5
Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye. Matthew 7: 3-5

This video is crazy, but you have to love the GI Joe style animation. I don’t know that much about Mormonism, if you do, let me know how much of this is true.

Inspired by a talk Donald Miller gave at Catalyst a few years back about his book Blue Like Jazz.
Donald Miller points out that “our sin nature wants us to reduce other people to tools and machines.” When, in actuality, we are called to understand that the world does not revolve around “me” but rather, that everybody is having an experience, created by God, and loved by God.
This is something I’m completely guilty of. I constantly forget that this life is just as much about other people as it is myself. How has God’s kingdom missed out because we view other people like the city bus?
Here’s what Paul had to say on the matter (Romans 12:3, 10, 16):
12:3 - For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you.
12:10 - Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves.
12:16 - Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited.

I saw this site on the Collide blog today. I overlook the power of prayer. I tend to think that some people are beyond grace. I place myself above others. And I need to repent for that. This site reminds me that we are all sinners, and God’s grace can break any person. Just look at Paul, he was a terrorist to the early church, and God broke him into His grace.

Here is one more look at our upcoming project.
The truth is I want to blog, but I have nothing to write, so here you go.
Do we need rules?
Do we need to worry about the rules of design?
